Building a champion network – 4 of 5 hero image

Decentralise training and skills development with a champion network

An effective champion network can help build, grow, and sustain your Microsoft 365 adoption far beyond your initial implementation.

When deploying new and dynamic technology like Microsoft 365 across your organisation, it can be difficult to train people effectively, get full buy-in from the staff, maintain momentum and get maximum value from the investment.

However, since learning from co-workers is considered to be among the most effective methods to drive use of a new technology, building a network of helpful people within the business can be the most effective way forward. Known as a ‘champion network’, these people understand what their team is trying to achieve and, with the appropriate skills, can help to promote and improve the use and acceptance of Microsoft 365.

Practically, champions can help people in their team build awareness of Microsoft 365, help their managers and colleagues understand how it can support the way they work, and be a local point of contact to answer common “how do I” questions.

What does this accelerator cover?

Developing a champion network requires careful planning, focused training, supporting resources and effective communications.

Through a series of workshops, we will help you to establish the appetite and justification to develop a Microsoft 365 champion network, explore techniques to secure management support, evaluate tools to support your network and develop a roadmap for the creation and management of a champion programme.

Step 1 - Justify

  • Establish the case for self-reliance and self-service
  • Identify a vision and success measures for a champion network
  • Agree what ‘good’ looks like in terms of the use of Microsoft 365

Step 2 - Evaluate

  • Identify tools to assist in the management and reward of the champions
  • Identify tools to help you establish a community for champions across geographical and business boundaries
  • Identify tools that develop and promote self-reliance and self-service

Step 3 - Plan

  • Using outputs from steps 1 and 2 to develop a champion network programme plan that will:
  • > Link the programme to business changes and challenges
  • > Define an approach to the implementation of selected tool(s)
  • > Define a six-month roadmap for technical and personal skills development of the champions
  • > Identify how to measure and celebrate successes
